Our Sooner Ally program is in its 2nd year of linking Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender students with faculty, staff members and fellow students who have been trained to better understand the LGBT community’s unique needs.
Sooner Allies have made a commitment to help LGBT students succeed at OU by making them feel safe, supported and included on campus. They also work to educate others about LGBT issues, in the hopes of reducing the prejudice often faced by LGBT students.
Sooner Allies are identified on campus by buttons or signs that carry the offical Sooner Ally logo listed above. If you see this logo, the person displaying is a resource for the LGBT community. Some of the issues addressed in the four-hour Sooner Ally training are:
· Dealing with prejudice against LGBT people
· Locating LGBT resources in the Norman area
· How straight allies can reach out to and connect with LGBT students

Being a Sooner Ally means I am committed to helping Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender students succeed at OU.
To become a Sooner Ally, I completed a four-hour training program focused on campus-specific issues in the LGBT community.
As a Sooner Ally, I am here to help LGBT students feel welcomed and supported, to address any issues they may be experiencing, and to encourage tolerance and understanding for EVERYONE on campus.
